1926 Harlem, Ga.-born Comic actor Oliver Hardy signed a long-term movie contract with Hal Roach.
1956 Georgia Gov. Marvin Griffin addressed a special joint session of the Georgia General Assembly urging lawmakers to support a resolution whereby the State of Georgia interposed its authority to declare the U.S. Supreme Court's 1954 and 1955 Brown v. Board of Education decisions "null and void" in Georgia.
1996 The Georgia House of Representatives declared Feb. 6 as "Engineer's Day" in Georgia.
